Dear Pimpama State Secondary College community,
It has been a positive start to term two here at Pimpama and we have enjoyed welcoming our students back to engage in their learning.
At Pimpama State Secondary College, our staff are passionately committed to the education and wellbeing of all of our students. It is exciting to have a number of opportunities to celebrate staff excellence at the college this term.
Celebrating Guidance Officer Week
In Guidance Officer Week (24 April to 5 May), we celebrated 75 years of guidance support in Queensland state school communities. Guidance officers provide counselling and advice on educational, career, personal, mental health and wellbeing issues for students.
We are lucky to have two incredible Guidance Officers with us here at Pimpama SSC – Melanie Baker and Nicole Jones. Melanie and Nicole go above and beyond in supporting our students and families, and make a significant difference in our community. I’d like to thank Melanie and Nicole for their commitment, compassion and professionalism.

Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
Over the next few weeks we will be inviting our students to participate in the The Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey. The survey aims to collect information from Queensland state schools in a consistent and systematic way to gain a better understanding of the engagement and wellbeing of our students. The survey is offered to schools on a voluntary basis each year in Term 2 for students in Years 4–12.
It asks questions about many aspects of students’ wellbeing, engagement and experience at school. Data from the survey will help schools monitor their school culture, school engagement and student wellbeing.
The QEW survey gives schools the opportunity to hear the collective voice of their students. Survey results are intended to inform continuous improvement within schools and provide an evidence-based approach to positively and proactively support students’ mental health, school engagement and wellbeing.
The QEW survey measures wellbeing and engagement across 12 domains, including resilience, school climate, sense of belonging, motivation and perseverance, academic self-concept, personal social capabilities, general life satisfaction, future outlook and aspirations, relationships with peers, with teachers and at home, and general health. We encourage our students to participate as it helps us inform how we can best support them.
Reporting and Parent Teacher Interviews
Parents will have received the first report for the year earlier this term. Parent teacher interviews are on Tuesday 14th May 2024. I encourage you to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss their progress and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Kind regards,
Megan Roderick
